Kathryn J. Bredehoeft
Nov. 13, 1948–Aug. 9, 2025
Kathy was born Nov. 13, 1948, in Goessel, Kans. to Leroy and Ruth (Meyer) Vogts. She graduated from Canton High School in 1966, where she was Homecoming Queen and Valedictorian. After spending a summer doing data entry, she became the first member of her family to enroll in college, attending St. John’s College and Concordia Teacher’s College. She was the first teacher from the Vogts family; fourteen more followed in her footsteps.
In 1976, she married Mike Manley and gained his two boys as children of her heart. In the following years, they had two children, a son and daughter. When Kathy married Larry Werth in 1989, she gained another son of her heart. They enjoyed 19 wonderful years of marriage. After losing Larry, Kathy was blessed to meet Dennis Bredehoeft. They married in 2017. His three daughters and their families brought even more joy into her life.
Her love of education led her to teach first grade for 29 years. Additionally, she served 28 years as a librarian in Lutheran schools. Whether her students knew her as Miss Vogts, Mrs. Manley, Mrs. Werth, or Mrs. Bredehoeft, she had a profound influence on shaping many young lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Ruth Vogts; her previous husband Larry Werth; her parents-in-law Wes and Roberta Werth; and her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Bill Wollberg.
Survived by her loving husband, Dennis Bredehoeft; her children: Sean Manley (Roxanne), Travis Manley (Kendra), Brad Werth (Katie), Michael Manley (Sharon), and Shannon Manley; her step-daughters: Julie Knapp (John), Kelly Harris (Danny), and Karla Fraas (Joe); grandchildren: Paige, Scout, River, Noah, Whit, and Solveig; step-grandchildren: Kaitlin, Libby, Emma, Nic, Brady, Chloe, and Gabbi; her siblings: Ralph (Cathy Rae), Paula (Lohren), and Kevin (Terry); her in-laws: Susan (Ron), Tom (Karen), Peggy, David (Julia), Darrell (Marianne), Russell (Janis), Gary (Jennifer), Susan (Joel), and Mark (Sabine); and her many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
