James C. Johnson

September 2, 1945 – May 18, 2023

James Carlton “Jim” Johnston, of Rolla, Missouri passed away on May 18, 2023 at the age of 77.

Jim was born on September 2, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Paul Johnston and Ruth (Papke) Johnston.  On June 15, 1968 he married Helen (Althoff) Johnston.

Jim will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes his wife Helen Johnston of Rolla, Missouri; three sons Neal (Dawn) of Tyler, Texas, Nathan (Christine) of St. Charles, Missouri, and Matthew (Caitlin) of Edgewater, Maryland; two daughters Kristin Phillips (Tim) of Salisbury, North Carolina and Suzannah Toso (Erik) of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Jason, Gabrielle, Ashley, Harrison, Anna, Nicklas, Kenley, Niko and Luke; and one brother John Johnston.

Jim enjoyed traveling, coaching baseball and basketball.  He loved playing baseball and was an avid Cardinal fan.  He was a Lutheran school teacher for many years serving in Indiana, Michigan, and Missouri.  He also enjoyed teaching math and tutoring children that needed additional help.  He enjoyed putting in the vegetable garden with Helen and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

His funeral service was held on May 22, 2023 at the Null and Son Funeral Home of Rolla.
