Reverend Kim Leroy Scharff, age 69 of Norborne, Missouri, was called home on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. Rev. Scharff was the son of Vern Lee and Margy Joyce (Wright) Scharff, born on November 24, 1950, in Omaha, Nebraska. Rev. Scharff had a beautiful tenor voice and was involved with many choral groups throughout college and his life. He was very well-known throughout Nebraska for his vocal abilities, and could also play several instruments including the violin. On August 5, 1972, Kim married Mary Elizabeth Hanneman in Beemer, Nebraska, and they were later blessed with seven children, Rachel, Hannah, Sarah, Mary Beth, Martha, Katharine, and David.
Rev. Scharff received his Masters of Music from Pitt State University and attended Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne where he received his Masters of Divinity. Rev. Scharff and did his Vicarage in Crookston, Minnesota before serving in as Campus Chaplain at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. In 1988, Rev. Scharff accepted a call to become the Pastor at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Norborne, Missouri, where he served faithfully for 32 years. He had also been a Circuit Counselor for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod for many years.
Rev. Scharff had a lot of diverse interests- having a large book collection that would rival most libraries, loved all genre of music, and loved sports, especially baseball. He was deeply loved by all and will be missed.
Rev. Scharff is survived by his children, Rachel (Eric) Buttaccio, Hannah (Eric) Woodward, Sarah (Joshua) Veach, Mary Beth Scharff, Martha (Rene) Castillero, Katharine (Tom) Smith, and David (Victoria) Scharff; his brother, Jeff (Marilyn) Scharff; his sister, Chris (James) Torpy; his brothers and sister-in-law, Reverend Father Dennis Hanneman, James (Kim) Hanneman; four beloved grandchildren, Matthew Woodward, Nicholas Buttaccio, Katharine Woodward, and Lukas Castillero; several beloved nieces, nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Margy Scharff; and his wife, Mary Scharff who passed on April 21, 2020.
