The EF3 tornado that hit the St. Louis metro area on May 16 has certainly made an impact that will be felt for years to come. It is estimated that more than $1 billion worth of property damage has occurred. The Missouri District can now confirm that seven LCMS congregations and their members have been impacted.
In these early days, we continue to work with these churches to assess the most basic of needs—providing food and supplies, finding safe shelter for those with no home to return to, and securing property under less-than-ideal conditions. Our care and concern also extends to those church workers who unexpectedly find themselves in a new area of ministry.
In this hour of trouble, God continues to be the refuge and strength that all can cling to with confidence. Our sincerest thanks to those who offer prayers and words of encouragement, drop off materials, and volunteer. How wonderful it is to be the body of Christ in a moment like this.
The Missouri District will continue to support affected congregations and families in the days ahead—sharing the “peace that passes all understanding” to ease their burden, as well as our financial resources. The path forward will be long and difficult to walk for many. Each new stage of recovery will bring its own set of challenges. Would you please prayerfully consider walking alongside those impacted by this disaster with a financial gift?
For those preferring to give through the mail, checks may be made payable to the Missouri District LCMS (with “Disaster Relief” added to the memo) and returned to:
