Rev. Frank Eberhart Obituary

Rev. Frank Edward Eberhart

December 12, 1941 – April 04, 2023

Born on December 12, 1941, in Denver, Colorado, to Joseph and Eleanor Eberhart.  He attended Mount Calvary Lutheran School in Denver, St. John’s High School in Winfield, Kansas, Concordia Junior College in Austin, Texas, Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri in 1967. While at seminary he met his future wife, Arline, at the catering company where they both worked, and they were married a year later in 1965. Together they moved to Winter Haven, Florida for his vicarage assignment from 1965-1966. After graduating from Concordia Seminary in 1967, Eberhart took a call to serve in Great Britain. He served as Pastor of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Ruislip, England (1967-1973) and St. David Lutheran Church in Cardiff, Wales (1973-1979). He then returned to the United States to serve at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farley, Missouri (1979-1989) and Our Saviour Lutheran Church (OSL) in Kansas City, Kansas (1989-2010).

Eberhart frequently served as a chaplain to medical centers and police and fire departments.  Once while on duty, he had to relay the news of a family member’s death to a Spanish speaking family but the only one who could understand English was a young child who had to relay the news to her parents. This incident was something he never wanted to repeat and so, while in his 60’s, he vowed to learn Spanish so he could minister to the Spanish speaking community. He was a star pupil in his Spanish classes at Johnson County Community College and he went on to be able to routinely communicate in Spanish in his ministry. During retirement, he was asked to serve as an interim minister at Jesus El Buen Pastor in Kansas City, Missouri for a three-month period; this turned into a 10-year labor of love as both an interim and a permanent minister. He continued to serve as their pantry director and administrator, and oversaw the finances of the congregation up until the time he passed.

Rev. Eberhart was preceded in death by Arline, his wife of 55 years, and by his brother Jim Eberhart. He is survived by his daughter Catherine (Trevor) Stanley and son Jeffrey (Rheina) Eberhart and grandchildren Aydin and Hanna.
