Marcia E. Schachtsiek

Marcia Elaine (Schulz) Schachtsiek, 82, of rural Palmyra, Mo., passed away May 28, 2026, at the Monroe City Manor, Monroe City, Mo.

She was born March 18, 1944, in Julesburg, Colo., to Rev. Roy and Elvira (Bruns) Schulz and baptized by her father into the family of Christ April 2, 1944, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and confirmed her faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fort Morgan, Colo., March 30, 1958. Her confirmation verse, John 15:5 (ESV) "I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing," was a guiding principle for her life.

She graduated from Fort Morgan High School and earned her education degree at Concordia Teacher's College, Seward, Neb., graduating in 1966. She was an educator throughout her life, beginning with her first teaching position at Our Father's Lutheran School, Milwaukee, Wis.

She married her husband of 56 years, Lowell Schachtsiek, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fort Morgan, Colo., July 20, 1969, and moved to rural Palmyra, Mo. She taught at Zion Lutheran School, Palmyra, Mo., for two years before leaving the position to raise her family. In 1990, she returned to Zion Lutheran School, teaching third and fourth grades as well as pre-k. She retired in 2009 but continued her role as an educator teaching Sunday School and serving as Sunday School superintendent at Immanuel Lutheran Church, West Ely, Mo., and leading the Bible Study group, LIGHT. She was an active participant in the church, including Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML), Ladies' Aid, and altar committee.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Lawrence, Merle, Norman, Howard, and Armin Schulz; brothers-in-laws Alfred Pope and John Hoehne; nephew Greg Pope; father- and mother-in-law Emmett and Irene Schachtsiek; and great-nephew Kyle McElwee. She is survived by her husband, Lowell; daughter Rachel (Brett) Barnes of Palmyra; son Fred (Kayla) Schachtsiek of Palmyra; son Frank (Amelia) Schachtsiek of Monroe City; sister Sandra Pope of Fort Morgan, Colo.; grandchildren Matthew and Anna Barnes, Khloe and Owen Schachtsiek, Evan and Nolan Schachtsiek; brother-in-law Alan Schachtsiek (Reta); sisters-in-law Gloria Hoehne, Janet (Doug) Wohlers, Marilyn Schulz, Anne Schulz; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held June 5, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hannibal, Mo., Burial followed at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, West Ely.

Memorials have been suggested to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or Uppercut Boxing, Monroe City.
