Rev. Gerald Wittmaier

December 6, 1944- August 30, 2020

Rev. Gerald Wittmaier passed into glory August 30, 2020 in Rolla at the age of 75. Rev. Wittmaier was born December 6, 1944 in St. Ann to Roman and Olga (Meyr) Wittmaier. Rev. Wittmaier and his wife of 52 years, Mary Ann (née Pahlmeyer), had six children and 15 grandchildren.

Before attending Seminary, Rev. Wittmaier graduated from St. Paul’s Junior College in Concordia, Missouri (1965), and from Harris-Stowe College in St. Louis, Missouri (1967). He received his Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary in Springfield, Illinois in 1971. Rev. Wittmaier was blessed to serve in many congregations including a vicarage in Antigo, Wisconsin, and as pastor in Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin, and in Missouri at Zion in Poplar Bluff, Redeemer in Rolla, and St. Paul’s in Cuba. He was also actively involved with Lutherans for Life and enjoyed hunting, birdwatching, and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Wittmaier, Rolla and children, Jennifer Wittmaier, Matt (Aimee) Wittmaier, Jonathan (Christy) Wittmaier, Nathan (Vicki) Wittmaier, Sarah (Calvin) Shanks, and Suzanne Cowan. Rev. Wittmaier was blessed with many grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Graveside service for Gerald Lee Wittmaier was held September 3, 2020 at Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Litchfield, Illinois. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Concordia Seminary Scholarship Fund or Alzheimer’s Association.
