Rev. Jeffrey Lloyd Obituary

Reverend Jeffrey E. Lloyd

Jan 16, 1945 – Oct 1, 2021

Reverend Jeffrey Elwyn Lloyd, 76, of Bates City MO, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021.  Rev. Lloyd was born January 16, 1945 in Milwaukee, WI, son of Elwyn and Alice nee Becker Lloyd.  He was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.

After completing his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1967, the then future Rev. Lloyd entered the Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield where he graduated and became an ordained Lutheran Church Missouri Synod minister in 1972.  Rev. Lloyd started his career at Christ Lutheran Church at Gordonville, Missouri.  There he met and married his wife LaVerne and they had two children.

Over the course of his career, he served as pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Appleton City, MO; Trinity Lutheran Church, Creighton, MO; Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, Montville, NJ; Immanuel Lutheran Church, Perryville, MO; and Messiah Lutheran Church, Independence, MO.  He also led services, Bible studies, and confirmation instruction at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in his retirement.

Rev. Lloyd was involved in many community activities.  He served on the Board of Education, Appleton City.  He was also a YMCA volunteer while in New Jersey and served on various other committees and boards in the communities in which he lived.  He was a substitute teacher and participated in the foster child program and was instrumental in sponsoring two families coming to the United States from Vietnam.

Rev. Lloyd devoted his life to the church and his family.  But anyone who knew him knew not to call during the Chief’s, Packer’s, or Royal’s games.  He especially enjoyed working with the youth in the church.  He also mentored recent seminary graduates through his work in his parishes.  In his own words, “Preaching and teaching” were what he loved to do most.

He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne Lucille née Winkler Lloyd, his parents, and an aunt and uncle, Fred and Mildred (Becker) Luther.  He is survived by two daughters:  Cindy Cary and her husband Roger of Deep Water, MO; and Kris Reifel and her husband Randy, of Bates City, MO.  Also a foster son Mark Ackermann (Theresa); four grandchildren: Christy Bracher (Trevor), Kayla Reifel (Felix), Alexis Reifel (Dayton), and Kyle Ackerman as well as one great grandchild Olivia Bracher, and several nieces and nephews.
