Richard Jostes Obituary

Richard "Dick" Jostes

May 27, 1951 – March 26, 2021

Richard “Dick” Jostes, 69, was called to his heavenly home on March 26, 2021.

Richard "Dick" Alan Jostes was born May 27, 1951 in Norfolk, Nebraska to Leonard and Doris (Preuss) Jostes.  He was baptized into the Christian faith at his maternal grandmother's farm home in Madison, Nebraska on June 17.  Jostes completed a B.S. of Elementary Education at Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska in 1973.  He completed a Master's Degree in Counseling from University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado in 1981.

Jostes retired June 30, 2020 after ten years as a gift officer for Concordia Seminary in Clayton, Missouri.   He also served in various administrative and fundraising positions at Orphan Grain Train, Norfolk, Nebraska; Concordia University Nebraska, Concordia University Chicago, and Children International in Kansas City.  Prior to his fundraising career, he taught in Lutheran elementary and high schools and served as an admissions counselor for Concordia University Seward.

Dick Jostes and his wife, Laura, of 41 years were married in Kansas City, Kansas on August 12, 1979.  They were blessed with three sons, Kurt, Steven and John.  Laura "held the fort down" while he traveled to meet with donors across the Midwest.  Two daughters-in-law joined the Jostes family, Rebecca and Jordan. Jostes was able to meet his two grandsons who were born in the last year, Nolan and Dominic, and who brought smiles to his face.

He is survived by his siblings--Janet (Jim) Luepke of Ft. Wayne, Doug Jostes of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Kris (Scot) Rockwell of Prescott, Arizona.

Dick Jostes' love and devotion for his Lord was reflected in the many ways he served his family and the Lutheran Church throughout his life.

"For me to live is Christ and to die is gain" will mark his final resting place in Seward, Nebraska.
